LeT commander, two associates killed

Government forces on Monday killed three Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), militants in an ambush at Watergam Village in South Kashmir’s Anantnag District.

Police sources said that army’s 19RR, CRPF and SOG had laid an ambush in Bul Bul Nowgam area after inputs that some armed militants are moving in the area. As soon as the group reached near Watergam Village, the troops challenged them asking them to surrender.

Reports said that the armed militants believed to be LeT commander Jibran @Abu Maaz, Showkat Lohar and Mudasir Hajam fired at the troops who retaliated killing the trio during the gunfight that ensued.

Amy spokesperson Col Rajesh Kalia said that three militants have been killed in an operation in the district. “Operation is in progress,” he said.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that intermittent gunfire is still going on in the area as the troops have extended the cordon and search operation in the area.
