Woman’s family stages protests, alleges murder

The family and relatives of Sumaiya who was found dead in Nala Gangbugh, Saturday staged protest against her alleged murder by her in-laws and demanded immediate action against them and a thorough probe by police in the case.

The protesting family assembled at Srinagar’s Press Enclave and chanted slogans like ‘we want justice’. They were demanding immediate action against Sumaiya’s in-laws who according to the family are involved in her ‘murder’.

The family said that their daughter, Sumaiya from the inception of her marriage bore the atrocities by her in-laws. “Sumaiya’s over one year old son was handed over to her sister-in-law without her consent, which led to the dispute between our daughter and her in-laws,” the family said.

They said that even her husband didn’t visit Sumaiya when she gave birth to her second baby. “We tried to sort out the issue repeatedly but unfortunately the dispute between our daughter and her in-laws resulted in her killing,” the protesting family alleged.

The family said that the Police and state’s women’s commission must investigate the death of their daughter so that the facts would come to fore.

“We appeal the authorities to investigate the matter and book the culprits involved into the killing of our daughter,” the family demanded.

The protesting family later dispersed peacefully.
