The traffic police in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district have failed to regulate the traffic thereby resulted in immense hardships to the commuters here.
The commuters said that the failure of authorities to regulate the traffic is resulting in frequent traffic jams here during which hundreds of vehicles could be seen stranded for hours on the vital routes including the Jamia Road, Main Chowk, Bypass and Iqbal Market crossing.
They said that it is the failure of traffic department, which results in frequent traffic mess here.
“Frequent traffic jams have drastically affected our lives and business. The worst affected are the government employees and students,” a commuter said.
The locals said the Army convoy’s heading for Tanghdar and Lolab sector adds the miseries to the people during the peak hours.
“Drivers of trucks and Sumo vehicles and other private cars are themselves responsible for traffic mess by parking their vehicles wrongly,” locals said.
“Narrow roads, encroachments of pavements by vendors and presence of Bus Stand in the middle of market are also among the reasons of traffic jams,” they added.
“Traffic jams can prove detrimental for patients in case of any medical emergency. Ironically, the concerned authorities are acting as mute spectators,” the locals said.
“There is a single parking slot in the town. People have no option but to park their vehicles haphazardly,” another local said.
