Amarnath Yatra Attack: Driver Salim nominated for Bravery award

Gujarat government has nominated Saleem Sheikh- the driver of the bus, who hurriedly drove the yatris to safety, saving 50 lives, for bravery award, media reports said.

Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir government announced Rs 3 lakh reward for  Saleem Sheikh.

“We want to thank the bus driver who saved many lives amid heavy firing. The Gujarat government will nominate Salim for the bravery award with the central government,” Rupani told the media at the airport where he had come to receive the remains of the pilgrims.

Reports said that Saleem’s family in Gujarat is also proud of the exemplary courage shown by him.

The bus was on its way from Baltal to Jammu when a shootout began after gunmen attacked forces.

The attack on the bus with 56 yatris aboard left seven dead and over 19 injured.
