IGP rejects reports about internet blockade in Kashmir

Rejecting the reports about government’s plan to snap mobile internet services in Kashmir, Inspector General of Police Munir Khan on Thursday clarified that they were not planning a blanket ban on the Internet services on the anniversary of slain militant commander Burhan Wani in Kashmir valley.

“There is nothing like suspending the Internet from tomorrow until 16th July, he said.

“Every step will be taken as per requirement and the situation will be reviewed on day-to-day basis.”

He said appropriate decisions, which are needed as per the situation, would be taken “in consultation with all stakeholders”.

Earlier, reports quoting police officials, said the government has decided to ban mobile Internet services from Thursday midnight in wake of the Joint Resistance Leadership’s protest calendar.
