The Directorate of Students Welfare (DSW), Central University of Kashmir (CUK) today organised a Na’at and Qira’at competition at Nowgam-I academic block of the varsity here.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, Dean School of Languages, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Malik, Head Department of Religious Studies, Prof. Hamidullah Marazi, Dean Students Welfare, Dr. Fayaz A Nikka, faculty members of different departments and students were also present on the occasion.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir, hailed the DSW for organizing the Na’at and Qirat competition. He said that holding the event during the auspicious and holy month of Ramadhan is more opportune. “I am extremely pleased to see the overwhelming response of the students participating in this competition,” Prof. Mehraj ud Din said. He asked the Department of Urdu and Religious Studies to jointly organize a State level Na’at and Qirat competition after Ramadhan so that the students from across the Jammu and Kashmir would be able to participate and compete.
Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, Dean School of Languages, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Malik, Head Department of Religious Studies, Prof. Hamidullah Marazi, while addressing the gathering said that by holding such an event, the DSW has provided a platform to the students of all the departments to exhibit their hidden talent. The speakers deliberated on the significance and importance of Na’ats and its impact on the human mind and soul. They said that both Muslim and Non-Muslim skilled writers and poets have written Na’ats, which have become popular across the globe.
The speakers also highlighted the contribution of Kashmiri poets and writers who according to them have showered praises on the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW), and have become a household name in the Jammu and Kashmir.
Dean Students Welfare, Dr. Fayaz A Nikka also spoke on the occasion and said that more such programmes would be organised in future.
Later, in the Qirat competition, Sajjad Ahmad Sheikh of Urdu department bagged the first prize of Rs 3000 while as Asif Ahmad Bhat of Zoology and Syed Younis of English bagged the second and third cash prize of Rs 2000 and Rs 1500 respectively.
In the Na’at competition, Ms Nazish Amin of Biotechnology bagged the top slot and won a cash prize of Rs. 3000 while as Muneed Ahmad Kashkar from Tourism and Ms. Shugufta Parveen from Zoology bagged the second and third position and won Rs 2000 and Rs 1500 respectively.
Assistant Prof. Department of Urdu, Dr. Altaf Hussain Naqshbandi conducted the programme proceedings while as Assistant Prof. Department of Convergent Journalism, Dr. John K Babu proposed the vote of thanks.
Assistant Professors Department of Religious Studies, Dr. Moyeed-ul-Zaffar and Dr. Nazir Ahmad Zargar were the jury for Qirat competition while as Amir Habib and Ahmad Muhammad Raza were the jury for Na’at competition.
