Hundreds of south Kashmir villages reel under darkness from past two weeks due to technical snag in Awantipora Grid station.
As per official sources, a transformer having capacity of 75MVA developed a technical fault due to lighting and thunder ten days ago, due to which 150 villages of Tral, Awantipora, Bijbehara and Pulwama are facing acute shortage of electricity in the holy month of Ramadhan
“We are providing electricity for two hours then keep it off for next two hours as we fear of damage in other transformers, if we continue to keep it on,” Power Development Department official said.
He admitted that more than 150 villages of south Kashmir reel under darkness due to technical failure.
Meanwhile locals allege that they are being forced to pay power tariff in the absence of the electricity.
Pertinently, assistant executive engineer Awantipora Mr Muzafar Ahmad said that the electricity will be supplied within next two days.
“We have brought a new transformer and it will be installed within next two days and I hope from Sunday, electricity supply will be restored as per schedule,” he told Kashmir Vision.
