Tippers race on Srinagar roads, put lives of commuters at risk

Commuters as well the pedestrians here have demanded immediate check on rash and negligent driving of tippers on Srinagar roads in evening hours, saying the drivers’ reckless behaviour poses risk to their lives.

A group of locals complained that from past several months, the tippers plying in the evening hours on Srinagar roads are putting lives of passengers in grave danger who are often seen plying rashly in the areas.

They alleged that the authorities have failed to take action or issue any advisory to the tipper drivers in this regard.

“The rash driving by the tipper drivers scares the commuters as well as the pedestrians. The scary horns and the speed of tippers while driving forces us to place our vehicles on the roadsides to make way for them and to ensure our safety,” the locals said.

Accusing the authorities of ignoring their plights, the locals here have demanded action against the ‘erring’ drivers.

“The drivers are indulging in rash driving from past several years while such actions have also resulted in various mishaps. The authorities must take action in this regard for the wellbeing of the commuters as well as the pedestrians,” a Mehjoor Nagar residents said.

The rash driving of the tippers is being witnessed mostly in areas like Tulsi Bagh, Batmaloo, Jahangir Chowk, Lal Chowk, M A Road, TRC, Rajbagh, Jawahar Nagar, Mehjoor Nagar and many others.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic City, Sargun Shukla told Kashmir Vision that strict action will be taken against the ‘erring drivers’.

“The tipper drivers have to follow the rules and anybody found violating the norms will be dealt with strictly according to the law,” she added.
