CM to chair cabinet meet today

State cabinet will meet here today to take decision about a number of key administrative issues including giving nod to the industrial policy, clearance to KPS cadre review. The cabinet is also likely to order transfers in the administration.

According to officials the state cabinet, which was scheduled to meet Tuesday, is meeting on Wednesday under the chairmanship  of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. Though the meeting was scheduled to held today, however  Commissioner Secretary GAD issued an order yesterday to postpone the meeting for a day.

Sources said that meeting will decide the promotion of an IAS officers and also finalize the guidelines of new Industrial Policy. The cabinet will also clear the state water policy that will help the government set the guidelines for the conservation of  better water resources in the state.  According to sources the cabinet meeting will be chaired by the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and will be held at the Secretariat at around 11 am.

Officials said that  in the cabinet meeting the discussions will be held over some “important issues’’ including granting promotional benefits to the KPS cadre officers as well as taking into account the amendments made in an earlier order on cabinet sub-committee (CSC) constituted to review the inclusion of KPS cadre into IPS.

“The previous cabinet order mentioned Naeem Akhtar as Education minister. Since his portfolio was changed, the order has to be amended and the cabinet will take note of the amendments that have been made in the order,’’ said an official.

He said that the delay in the  inclusion of KPS officers into IPS has caused resentment among the police officers and has recently created fissures in the ruling alliance after BJP had opposed it in the last cabinet meeting where Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had left in a huff. To iron out the difference, the government formed a cabinet sub-committee that included six ministers, three each of PDP and BJP.

Officials said that the government will also accord the promotion to a senior rank IAS officer and also it will decide on the terms of appointment of the Law Officers to the Supreme Court. A senior government official further said that the steps that the government needs to take to prevent the deterioration in the law and order situation will also come up for discussion in the meeting.
