Mehjoor Nagar residents demand shifting of garbage containers

Residents of Mehjoor Nagar area have demanded to shift garbage containers from Mehjoor Nagar Bund to another feasible spot.

A delegation of locals from the area said that due to the garbage containers a huge number of stray dogs are present near it all the time.

A resident said, “It creates panic and poses threat to the residents living here. Also, the stinking smell has made our lives tough.”

The garbage containers are situated on the side of the road and on the bund of the flood channel, which passes through Rambagh area of the city.

Bashir Mir, a resident of the area said, “These garbage containers are situated on the side of the road, which is used by all the residents of the area daily. These containers always remain full with garbage despite their regular replacement with empty containers.

“Stray dogs eat wastes from these garbage containers all the time. We can say these containers are inviting stray dogs,” he added.

“The dogs around the containers create panic among our children. The crossing near these containers has become a challenge for them. It would be better to shift these containers from road side to another place,” another local said.

The residents appealed the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to immediately shift the containers.

SMC Commissioner Dr. Shafqat Khan said that they are looking for alternate space to relocate the containers.

“Provide us another space for these containers and we will shift them there,” he said.
