Residents demand proper sanitation in Srinagar City

With the arrival of summer and the garbage dumped on road sides becoming a site of air and water borne disease the inhabitants of several areas accused the administration for failing to provide proper sanitation.

The residents of several areas including Habba Kadal, Fateh Kadal, Baba Demb, Noor Bagh, Bohri Kadal said that they are being forced to face tremendous hardships due to lack of sanitation. They accused the administration of continuously failing to redress their grievances and ignoring their plights.

 “Despite having equipment’s and other things to sanitize the roads, the authorities seem reluctant to clean up the area,” a local said.

Pertinently, health experts have repeatedly stressed on the need to clear the garbage and dust from residential areas and have advised people to wear masks. According to them several diseases like typhoid, cholera are reported from these areas because of lack of garbage dumping facilities.

Another problem faced by the residents in the city areas is the high degree of dust particles found in the air particularly in the summer months and more so due to increased vehicular movement due to durbar move in the month of April.

Meanwhile, an official in Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) said that the department is taking necessary measure and they are ready to redress any grievance at the earliest.
