Sonmarg still unprepared to receive tourists, authorities turn a blind eye

All tall claims of the Government, to revive tourism, are exposed as a lot of facilities continue to be elusive for tourists at the famous health resort Sonamarg.

Sonamarg, a famous health resort of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, was reopened a few weeks ago after remaining closed for more than four months due to heavy snowfall.

Despite the heavy rush of foreign and domestic tourists, the authorities have not restored ATM and the mobile network facilities leaving the shops, resorts, traders as well as the tourists high and dry.

Several hoteliers from the area said that the poor civic amenities had brought disrepute to the tourism sector.

A hotelier said, “Authorities look at Sonamarg when the yatra is about to being. Rest of year this place is neglected. Till the time this perception will not change, things won’t improve. Lack of accountability in the system has badly hit the tourist potential of the area.”

The tourism players have urged Sonamarg Development Authority CEO and the concerned authorities to look into the matter and restore ATM and mobile network facilities at an earliest.
