Minister for strengthening disaster management institutions

Minister for Revenue, Relief, Rehabilitation, Reconstruction, and Disaster Management, Abdul Rehman Veeri, today stressed on strengthening disaster management institutions in the State and augmenting requisite infra for effective response to any eventuality.

The Minister stated this during a meeting he chaired to review the progress of World Bank funded Jhelum and Tawi Flood Recovery Project.

Commissioner Secretary (PWD)  Rohit Kansal,  Commissioner Secretary I&FC Shalindra Kumar,  Commissioner Secretary Revenue Muhammad Ashraf Mir,  CEO JTFRP Sandeep Nayak,  Director Planning  PWD Tariq Ahmed Khan, Director Disaster Management Amir Ali,  Director Finance DMRRR Zahoor Wani, Commissioner SMC  Dr Shafkat Khan, and other officers of different Departments attended the meeting.  

On the occasion, the Minister asked the officers to fix all the modalities for completion of the ambitious project on time.

          The Minister was informed that Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been submitted to the World Bank.

          It was said that the project would focus on restoring critical infrastructure using international best practice and aims at both restoring essential services disrupted by the floods and improving the design standard and practices to increase resilience and capacity building.

          Given the region’s vulnerability to both floods and earthquakes, Veeri stressed on having a comprehensive rehabilitation and disaster management policy for the State.
