Chief minister Mehbooba Mufti who is also the President, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages Tuesday accorded approval to nomination of Zafar Iqbal Manhas, Member, J&K Legislative Council as the Vice President of J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages.
This was disclosed by Secretary, JKAACL, Dr. Aziz Hajini, who stated that nomination of the former Secretary has been made by the President Academy in pursuance of decision of Academy’s General Council taken by it in its meeting held on 17th December, 2016.
Pertinently, the General Council of the JKAACL after thorough deliberations and with a unanimous decision had authorized the President JKAACL (HCM) to nominate any member of the Council as the Vice President of the Academy.
“In accordance with the relevant decision of the General Council regarding nomination of the Vice President, a proposal was initiated by us for formal nomination by the President JKAACL (HCM) out of a proposed panel,” Hajini disclosed, adding the President JKAACL nominated Manhas in view of his credentials, experience and knowledge of the Academy’s functioning.
Hailing the nomination of Manhas as Vice President of the Academy, Hajini said that it was after around thirty six years that Academy was having a Vice President.
“It is a welcome step as by nominating a Vice President, the President Academy has restored the democratic character and institutional autonomy of JKAACL,” Hajini said.
Pertinently, Manhas is currently serving as Member, J&K Legislative Council and is also on the General Council and Central Committee of the Academy. A former Secretary of the Academy, Manhas has served the State in several important positions including Secretary, State Autonomy Committee, Member, Autonomy Committee and Secretary, J&K State Advisory Board for Development of Pahari Speaking People.
Pertinently, the meeting of the General Council of the Academy was held at Jammu in the month of December 2016 after a gap of nearly 35 years.
