Shopian youth who escaped police custody joins militants, releases video 

Zubair Ahmad Turray, a youth of south Kashmir’s Shopian town has joined militant ranks after he escaped the police custody last week.

Zubair on Sunday released a video clip of five minutes announcing his joining of militancy.

Seen in army fatigue and automatic rifles and ammunition in the foreground, Zubair describes the reasons behind his decision of joining militancy.

“I was slapped with PSA after PSA and even quashed the last one by the High Court, I was not released instead was facing illegal detention since three months,” Zubair is heard saying in his video clip. “Every effort of my father to get me released failed.”

Pertinently, Shopian town was observing shut down for last four days, demanding whereabouts of Zubair.

Meanwhile, he has appealed to the people to support the “freedom movement” and “promises to take the struggle forward”.
He is heard thanking people of Shopian for their “pro-freedom”.

Zubair was last arrested in 2015 on stone pelting charges and was slapped with PSA. He, according to the police, escaped from police station Keegam on May 1.
