JK CIC delivers lecture on scenario planning at CUK

Jammu and Kashmir State Information Commission, Chief Information Commissioner, Khurshid A Ganai today delivered a special lecture on “Scenario Planning: The art of the long view,” to the students of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) at Nowgam-I academic block here.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir, Head of the Department, Management Studies, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Shah, Dean, Department of Students Welfare, Dr. Fayaz A Nikka, Deans, Heads and Coordinators of other departments and other faculty members were also present during the lecture organised by the Department of Management Studies.  

While delivering the lecture, Khurshid A Ganai said the scenario planning has become a strategic management tool for the modern managers and therefore important to be studied in the universities and colleges as part of the MBA and other management courses.

Khurshid Ganaie quoted several instances of companies, particularly the multinationals, across the world, during his address with reference to the scenario planning. The CIC also elaborated on the pros and cons of globalization and said the wealth is not getting distributed, equally. “It seems by 2020 only one per cent of the population will own 54 per cent of the global wealth,” he said. Ganai also discussed threadbare issues pertaining to the current job scenario and economic issues confronting the countries across the world.

Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir asked the students to make Khurshid Ganai as their role model and prepare thoroughly for the competitive examinations. He said that Ganai played a major role in making the policy decision in the State of Jammu and Kashmir. Prof. Mir said that there is a huge vacuum as far as our peoples’ presence in the civil services is concerned. He exhorted upon the students to prepare hard for the civil service examinations and prove their mettle in the administration.

Earlier, welcoming the guest, Head Department of Management Studies, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Shah, gave a brief introduction about Khurshid A Ganai. He said that Khurshid A Ganai has served at various top positions in the State administration and has a rich and diverse experience in the public administration.

About the theme, Dr. Farooq said, “The scenario planning is different from the traditional conventional planning because in tradition plan, the forecast is based on longitudinal straight line, extrapolation of figures and facts and data.” He added that the scenario planning is an integrated approach in which the participants and experts try to visualize a different set of scenarios about the features, which are going to unfold in future. 

The lecture was followed by interactive session of Khurshid Ganai with the students.

Assistant Professor, Department of Management Studies, Dr. Zia ul Haq conducted the programme proceedings while as Dean DSW, Dr. Fayaz A Nikka proposed the vote of thanks.
