Despite the cancellation of cross-LoC bus service last night following the ‘anti-militancy operation’ in Uri sector of north Kashmir, the cross-LoC trade via Aman Setu (Peace Bridge) took place normally on Tuesday.

“The cross-LoC trade went normally today without any disruption,” Station House Officer (SHO) Uri, Tabrez Ahmad told Kashmir Vision over phone.

“35 trucks from this side have crossed to other side of Line of Control while we have received 12 trucks from the other side,” the SHO said.

Reports said that eatables, garments and handicrafts were traded on the twin sides of Line of Control.

However, on Monday the cross-LoC ‘Karvan-e Aman’ bus service between Srinagar-Muzaffrabad remained suspended on the both sides of Line of Control after the army launched a search operation in Uri.

Sources said that army launched a search operation in Gawalta and Uroosa villages following the inputs about the presence of militants in these areas on Monday.

Trade between the divided parts of Kashmir is considered as the second major Confidence Building Measure (CBM) after the launch of historic bus service between Srinagar and Muzaffrabad on April 7, 2005.

Although agreed upon by India and Pakistan in 2004, the trade became a reality on October 21, 2008.

Army sources on Tuesday said that the ‘anti-militancy operation’ is still going on in Uri sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.  “It is still in progress,” the sources said.
