The High Court Bar Association of Srinagar, on Saturday, strongly condemned the ‘inhuman and barbaric’ act of arresting a ten-year-old boy Suhail Ahmad Dar of Aripanthan Beerwah from his home, during the intervening night of May 3 and 4 by the police.
The boy since then has been detained at Magam police station. As per reports, the teenager is a sixth class student of Gulshan Public School Khazarpora and as per school records, he has not turned 10 years.
Reports further suggest that apart from arresting Suhail, the police mercilessly beat up the boy’s father and mother. The cops enquired about their other son Aadil, who was not at home. They then dragged Suhail out and took him away with them. This act of police is being termed as unlawful and violation of the human rights of the people.
The Bar Association also condemned the use of brutal force against the students at Budgam, Sopore and other places, who were all peacefully protesting against the arrest and detention of school going children, throughout the Valley and were demanding their release.
Not just this, the Bar Association condemned the thrashing of two journalists, who had gone to Sopore in connection with their professional engagements, but were not only prevented from doing so but were badly beaten up by the forces. Both the scribes received injuries and had to be rushed to the hospital.
The crackdown of 25 villages of Shopian and the bulldozing of the houses of the people by army, CRPF and police personnel was also condemned by the Bar Association.
The Bar Association requested human rights organizations to take stock of the happenings in Kashmir.
