Police on Friday claimed to have busted a module of Hizbul Mujahideen militant outfit by arresting three activists in Shopian district of South Kashmir.

A police official said that a joint team of army, SOG and police arrested three over ground workers (OGWs) from the town following specific information.

The OGWs according to the official are involved in number of militancy activities and were planning to snatch weapons from government forces.

The official identified the arrested persons as Akeel Ahmad Malla S/o Abdul Rashid Malla of Reshipora Hermain, Asif Abdullah Wagay S/o Mohammad Abdullah Wagay of Reshipora Hermain and Amir Hussain Ganie S/o Manzoor Ahmad Ganie of Check Cholena.

“The module developed contact with active HM militants Gayas-Ul-Islam Thoker, Abass Bhat and Ishfaq Ahmad Thoker of Shopian and met the militant group at various places including Mantribugh, Hermain and Chakoora and planned to carry out subversive activities,” the official said.

The module was provided with one Pistol and 03 grenades to carry out terror activities and snatch weapons from forces and to join militant ranks, the official added. 

All the 03 OGW went to Kulgam Bus stand to lob a grenade but did not find any deployment of Security Forces there. Thereafter, they tried to do same activity at Anantnag Bus Adda, Railway Station Anantnag and Police Post Behibagh but could not execute the plan, the official said.

The module is also involved in pasting of election boycott posters in Reshipora and Hermain areas. A Motor bike (Passion Pro) belong to Akeel Ahmad has been used in the commission of their activities at many places has been seized. Muneeb-Ul-Islam and Asif Ahmad also went together to Chadoora Budgam and indulged into the stone pelting which took place at Chadoora on 28th March at an encounter place, the official said.

Shopian Police while monitoring the activities found the link of Akeel with militants and thereafter in a chain of events others were also arrested. Three Chinese grenades were recovered at their instance from an orchard at Hajipora In this connection a case FIR No. 91/2017 U/S 7/25 A.Act, 39 ULA (P) Act registered in P/S Shopian and investigation taken up, the official said.

One of their associate namely Muneeb-Ul-Islam son of Ghulam Hassan Malla of Reshipora Hermain is arrested by Anantnag Police and other associate identified as  Owais Ahmad @ Raja R/o Meshipora  is absconding, the official added.
