Police foiled Geelani’s book release function: Hurriyat (G)

Police on Sunday sealed the Hyderpora residence of Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani, to foil the scheduled release of his book Ruh-e-Deen Ka Shanasa on Allama Iqbal. The people present in Jamia Masjid Hyderpora protested against ‘unwarranted’ restrictions.

Hurriyat (G) spokesman, Ayaz Akbar, strongly criticized the state administration for the ‘unjustified’ police action.

“Geelani was to release the third volume of book written by him titled “Iqbal-Rohi Deen Ka Shanasa” on Sir Mohammad Iqbal at Hyderpora office. We had invited intellectuals, journalists, poets and senior citizens to the function, which was to be held at Geelani’s house. However, police had put up barricades and closed the road leading to his house from Srinagar-Airport main road,” Ayaz Akbar said.

“Nobody, even the media was not allowed to enter the venue of the book release function. It is unfortunate, even social gatherings are not being allowed by the state authorities.”

He said that prominent among invitees, included Bar association president, Advocate Miyan Abdul Qayoom,  Peer Saifullah, Raja Meraj u Din, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Abdul Majid Zarger, Devinder Singh Bhel, Mohammad Yusuf Mujahid, Mohammad Shafi Rishi, Mohammad Ashraf Laya, Zamrooda Habib, Shah Wali Mohammad, Mohammad Syed, Ghulam Mustafa Wani Mudasir Nadvi, Rafiq Ahmad Owasi, Mukhtar Ahmad Sofi and Ashiq Hussain.
