RBI sets up office of Banking Ombudsman for JK

In view of the significant increase in banking network during the recent past and the large jurisdiction being covered by the current Office of the Banking Ombudsman, New Delhi-I, the Reserve Bank has set up an Office of the Banking Ombudsman for the State of Jammu and Kashmir at Reserve Bank of India, Jammu.

The Office of the Banking Ombudsman at Reserve Bank of India, Jammu will have the jurisdiction over the entire State of Jammu and Kashmir which, hitherto was under the jurisdiction of the Office of the Banking Ombudsman, New Delhi-I.

RBI has appointed S C Sharma as Banking Ombudsman of Jammu and Kashmir who has taken charge as first BO of the state.

It is pertinent to mention here that Banking Ombudsman Scheme (BOS) – 2006 was introduced with the object of enabling resolution of complaints relating to certain services rendered by banks to facilitate cordial settlement of such complaints. The Office of the Banking Ombudsman for J&K is an alternate dispute redressal mechanism.
