SHRC seeks report on Pulwama, Budgam incidents

Rights body State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has taken cognizance of the alleged disproportionate use of force against students at Degree College Pulwama last week.

In a statement issued here, a spokesperson of the Rights body said that the Chairperson, Justice Bilal Nazki took cognizance of the matter and directed Superintendent of Police Pulwama to file a detailed report regarding the matter before the Commission within two weeks.

The rights body also took suo moto cognizance of a recent incident where a youth was allegedly tied to a security forces vehicle in Budgam area of Kashmir and has sought report from Police regarding the matter.

 SHRC chairperson Justice (retired) Bilal Nazki observed that using a person as a shield is a primafacie gross violation of human rights.

The Chairperson while taking cognizance of the matter, directed the SSP Budgam to furnish report regarding the same by April 27, 2017 and asked him to explain under what circumstances the incident has happened.
