JK’s Cluster Universities formally inaugurated

In a step forward, twin Cluster Universities of Jammu and Srinagar were Monday formally inaugurated along with 17 other projects completed under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) elsewhere in the country. The projects were dedicated to the nation through digital launch by Union Minister for Human Resource Development (HRD), Prakash Javadekar.

For the launch via video-conferencing an impressive function was held at the Government PG College for Women Gandhi Nagar which was attended by Minister for Education Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari and Minister of State for Education, Priya Sethi. Vice Chancellor, Cluster University Jammu, Prof (Dr) Anju Bhasin, Commissioner/Secretary to Govt., Higher Education Department, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon, Registrar Cluster University Jammu, Dr Jatinder Khajuria, Director RUSA, Tariq Ahmed Zargar, Principal, Govt PG College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Dr Kiran Bakshi, Principals of various Degree Colleges, dignitaries and students were present.

The Rashtriya Uchhtar Siksha Abhiyan (RUSA) is a centrally sponsored Scheme initiated by MHRD to improve quality standards in the country by creating new institutes through upgrading the existing colleges and conversion of colleges into Clusters.

The underlining aim of promoting research and introducing modern courses in higher education. It is important to mention that J&K State is the first state to launch these two Cluster Universities in the country.

Under this University five colleges including GGM Science College, Jammu as lead college and four other colleges Govt. P G College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, Govt. MAM College, Jammu, Govt. SPMR College of Commerce, Jammu and Govt. College of Education, Jammu come under its preview. The Cluster University Srinagar comprising five colleges including Amar Singh College as lead College, SP College Srinagar, Govt. College for Women, MA Road, Institute of Advance studies in Education and GDC Bemina.
