Rashid Billa shot dead in Bandipora Hajin

Abdul Rashid Parray alias Rashid Billa, a former pro-government gunman (Ikwani) was shot dead inside his home in Hajin area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Sunday night, sources said.

Police sources said that militants barged into Billa’s home and opened indiscriminate fire, killing him on the spot.

Rashid was accused to be involved  in the infamous Saderkote Massacre where seven civilians were killed by Ikhwanis on October 5, 1996.

Billa was among big names of counter-insurgents in 1990s to stop the surge of militancy in north Kashmir, especially Hizbul Mujahideen.

Billa, according to sources, was absconding after trail was initiated by the High Court, against him.
