KEG condemns intimidation of reporter 

Kashmir Editors Guild (KEG) has condemned the intimidation of a reporter by a political worker in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Abdul Qayoom Khan, working for various news organisations, was threatened and abused by a political worker belonging to the ruling People’s Democratic Party. He was accused of things he had no connection with. Soon after the verbal abuse and threats on phone, Khan collapsed and was hospitalized.

The editor’s body while expressing sympathies with the reporter emphasized that such actions should not go unpunished and those responsible for intimidating and threatening reporters must be dealt with according to the law of the land.

KEG said the political worker should have sent his version of tings rather than issuing a threat.

The KEG said that stakeholders in Kashmir must avoid targeting the storyteller if and when the story goes off the script.

The government should ensure that such incidents are not patronized and those responsible for the act should be punished.

The editor’s body police to avoid shutting eyes and taking the issue seriously. KEG was informed that the police avoiding registering a case when they were approached by the Pulwama based reporters.
