Jammu to hold Baisakhi Mela from April 12

Jammu: A meeting to review the arrangements of five-day Baisakhi Mela scheduled to commence from April 12 in the Jammu region was held here on Friday, an official spokesperson said.
Director Tourism Jammu, Soujanya Sharma chaired the meeting according to the spokesperson.
The festival is being organized by Tourism Department in collaboration with traders associations viz Kanak Mandi, Raghunath Bazar, residency road and others.
It was informed in the meeting that the Mela would be inaugurated on April 12. The traders would install ethnic food stalls at Raghunath Bazaar, Rajinder Bazaar, Vir Marg and Kanak Mandi on nominal rates during the Mela followed by cultural events showcasing cultural heritage of the state.
Sharma said that such type of events are being organized to revive and promote the unique cultural ethos of Jammu besides promoting cultural tourism in the state.
He further added that traditional Tanga Ride would also be a major attraction of mela to revive age-old traditions of Jammu and informed that artists from other states would also perform cultural programmes during the festival.
On the occasion, traders association would offer special discounts to customers besides a prize of three nights and two days free stay in Patnitop would be given to the owner of best decorated shop by Tourism Department.
Representatives of various traders associations while appreciating the efforts tourism department assured the department, their full cooperation to make the event a grand success.
Joint Director Tourism, SK Gupta, Dy Director, Representatives of various traders association besides others were also present in the meeting.
