SRINAGAR: A team of officials from district administration Srinagar along with police and officials of Srinagar Municipal Corporation conducted extensive demolitions in Mustafabad, HMT.
“The demolitions were conducted to retrieve an irrigation canal registered with the Revenue department as Shaamilat (common) land. The canal was encroached upon by some individuals who had illegally conducted land filling in portions of the canal thereby blocking the natural flow of water,” an official handout said.
“During the extensive demolition drive illegal encroachments were removed and the natural irrigation canal was retrieved.”
A spokesperson of the district administration revealed that the issue was taken up by the task force constituted by Deputy Commissioner Srinagar for providing relief to people of that area who were adversely affected by water logging because of the recent snow and rainfall. The spokesperson further said that the general public should desist from illegally encroaching upon common land.
Anybody found violating of the law in this regard, would be dealt with severely under relevant provisions of the law.
