BUDGAM: District level employment fair was held at Higher Secondary School ground here in which more than 26 government departments and agencies participated, an official spokesperson said on Monday.
Departments like Handloom, Handicrafts, Industries and Commerce, Sericulture, Agriculture, Floriculture, Fisheries etc. had set up their stalls to educate and aware youth about various schemes and programs implemented by them for income generation through self-employment means.
“Self Employment is the need of the hour because there is saturation in government jobs and state government cannot logically employ all the educated youth. They must engage in self-employment by which they can not only earn their livelihood but provide others a way of earning daily bread too,” said Deputy Commissioner, Khurshid Ahmed Shah in his inaugural address. “There are scores of schemes with the government which provide monetary and technical benefits to people in setting up their self employment units are it in form of sheep farms, poultry farms or non agricultural activities like manufacturing units and service sector. The need is to sensitize and aware the people about available schemes.”
A number of youth were present in the employment fair who were inquiring about various schemes.
District coordinator, Entrepreneurship Development Institute told the youth about Seed Capital Scheme and Youth Startup Scheme under which unemployed youth are provided financial assistance in lakhs along with technical guidance. Manager from District Industries and Commerce threw light on PMEGP (Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme) and the role of district industries and commerce centre in setting up medium and small scale industries.
