SRINAGAR: A youth committed suicide while another made a similar attempt to end his life in the Kashmir valley, police said Tuesday.
22-year-old Mursaleen Muahtaq Lone hanged himself in his house at Parin Kunamulla in the central Kashmir district of Ganderbal. He was rushed to hospital where he was declared brought dead, a police spokesman said.
It was not immediately clear why he took this extreme step, the spokesman said, adding police has registered a case and initiated proceedings.
45-year-old Bashir Ahmad Khan consumed some poisonous substance in his house at Tangpora, Kokernag, in south Kashmir district of Anantnag. Family members immediately rushed him to district hospital Anantnag where his condition was stated to be critical.
Police have registered a case and started investigation, they said.
