1,083 complaints lodged with SVC: Omar

Jammu: The State Vigilance Commission (SVC) has received 1,083 complaints of corruption and has disposed of 252 cases since its inception.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, in response to a query by Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, informed the Assembly that a total of 1,083 complaints were received by the Commission.
Out of these, 252 complaints have been disposed of while 285 complaints have been transferred to investigating agencies in the state, he said.
The SVC deals with the complaints for the conduct of inquiry only. During inquiry, if it is found that a case is made out, it is sent for the investigation to the Vigilance Organisation, he said.
The J&K State Vigilance Commission Act 2011 was enacted to provide for the constitution of the SVC to inquire or cause inquiries to be conducted into offences alleged to have been committed under the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act by the public servants, corporations established in the state, he said.
