Under e-governance project, KU launches SMS service

SRINAGAR: As part of various IT initiatives taken up by the University of Kashmir (KU) under e-governance project, Vice Chancellor Prof Talat Ahmad Wednesday launched the official SMS service of the University.
`A KU statement said that Prof Talat Ahmad while launching the SMS service said that the varsity was “in the mode of switching over to e-governance.”
“The SMS service will be great initiative for the students/candidates and other stake holders of KU,” Talat said.
The statement said that through the facility, the KU will be able to send the different status SMSes to its stake holders.
“In the first instance the Online Forms, Student Registration System, Fee Reconciliation, Migration Certificate Dispatch, E-Awards, Conference Portal, Acceptance of Registration and papers, Salary System, Security enhancement through One Time Password for other e-governance applications will have SMS enabled facility,” the statement said.
The statement said that the service will benefit the system and delivery of information to the various stakeholders of the Varsity.
According to the statement, the KU’s Directorate of IT&SS had approached Ministry of Communication & Information Technology, Government of India for bulk SMS services for its academic use which was provided under National Mobile Governance Initiative of Government of India.
Dean Academic Affairs KU Prof AM Shah, Registrar KU Prof Zaffar A Reishi, Controller of Examinations Prof AS Bhat and Director IT&SS Prof SMK Quadri were also present during the launching ceremony,” the statement said.
