No ration cards for new families: Government

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir government Wednesday said that no ration cards will be issued to new families, as government of India is providing food grains on the basis of projected population of year 2000 while the population has increased much more since then.
While replying to a question in the House, The Consumer and Public Affairs (CAPD) Minister Chaudhary Mohammad Ramzan said the ration cards are being issued in favour of some households only against surrender certificates.
The CAPD Minister said that since the National Food Security Act 2013 has come into force with effect from June 7 last year the government has circulated a proforma amongst the general public of state for obtaining basic inputs and have basic survey of the households with respect to socio-economic status in order to arrive at a “reasonable criteria” for inclusion or exclusion of households to be covered under National Food Security Act-2013.
