POONCH: Poonch District Development Commissioner Ashok Kumar Sharma on Friday visited villages affected by flash floods in Hari-Marhote, Surankote subdivision, to assess damage and review relief efforts.
Accompanied by senior officials, he inspected damage to roads, shops, school buildings, riverbank protection, farms, crops, irrigation channels, and other infrastructure. He interacted with affected families, listening to their grievances and immediate needs.
Sharma directed departments to coordinate closely and expedite restoration of damaged infrastructure, including roads and utilities, to minimize public inconvenience. He instructed SDM Surankote to personally monitor relief and restoration operations, ensuring timely completion. The DDC assured affected families of full support and emphasized that genuine damage cases would be promptly assessed for relief.
The administration has been on high alert for five days, with teams working tirelessly to assess losses, rescue stranded individuals, restore essential services, and provide immediate aid despite challenging weather and terrain. The efforts of all departments and emergency teams involved in relief and rehabilitation were appreciated by Sharma.
