Over 200 publishers to participate

Srinagar: The upcoming Chinar Book Festival, scheduled to be held from July 18 to 26, 2026, in Srinagar, will feature participation from over 200 publishers and book exhibitors from across the country, displaying books in English, Urdu, Kashmiri, Hindi, and several other Indian languages.
Dr Amit Wanchoo, Chief Convener of the Chinar Book Festival, along with Ms Shobha Kapoor from the National Book Trust (NBT), called on Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha on Tuesday and briefed him about the nine-day literary event.
Alongside the book exhibition, the festival will host a wide range of literary discussions, author interactions, book launches, children’s programmes, storytelling sessions, workshops, cultural performances, Mushairas, Sufiyana music, and youth engagement activities. The festival is being organised by the National Book Trust, an apex body established by the Government of India in 1957 to promote reading culture and publish quality literature in Indian languages.
This will be the third edition of the Chinar Book Festival, following the successful second edition held in August 2025 at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC), which was inaugurated by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and attended by a large number of bibliophiles, school children, and literary personalities.
The event aims to promote reading culture across the region and provide a vibrant platform for dialogue, discovery, and community engagement. The Lieutenant Governor has consistently supported such cultural initiatives, previously highlighting the importance of literature as a bridge between cultures and generations while inaugurating the Kashmir Literature Festival.
