Srinagar: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, VK Birdi, on Friday said elaborate multi-tiered security and traffic arrangements have been put in place for the 10th Muharram (Ashura) procession from Gulshan Abad to Zadibal to ensure the safe and smooth movement of mourners.
Speaking with reporters, the IGP Kashmir, said mourners from different parts of the Valley as well as Srinagar city participate in the procession, prompting the District Police Srinagar to make extensive security and administrative arrangements.
He said traffic regulations have also been planned to ensure the procession causes minimal disruption to the rest of the city and that vehicular movement remains smooth.
The IGP said organisers have also deployed volunteers to assist in ensuring the procession moves in a disciplined and streamlined manner along its designated route, adding that their cooperation has been commendable.
Referring to the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, Birdi said comprehensive multi-tiered and in-depth security arrangements have been made on both Yatra routes.
He said a large number of personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, including the Executive Police, Civil Police, Traffic Wing and Security Wing, will be deployed to ensure a safe and incident-free pilgrimage—(KNO)
