DPS Srinagar wins inter-school basketball tournament

SRINAGAR: Delhi Public School, Srinagar, asserted its athletic supremacy by capturing the championship trophy at the recent inter-school basketball tournament. The high-stakes competition brought together ten prominent school teams from across the valley to display tactical brilliance and promote physical development among youth. DPS Srinagar delivered an unblemished campaign that culminated in a hard-fought victory to highlight the institutional commitment to sporting excellence.

The tournament operated on a strict knockout basis that demanded absolute focus from every squad. DPS Srinagar opened the campaign with an aggressive offence and defeated Life School Budgam to secure a decisive first-round victory. The team maintained this competitive momentum during the semi-final encounter, where they outmanoeuvred Birla Open Minds Pampore to guarantee their place in the final match.

The final match produced an intense tactical battle between DPS Srinagar and Doon School Srinagar. Driven by disciplined teamwork and sharp execution, the DPS Srinagar players controlled the tempo of the game under immense pressure and closed the thrilling encounter with a 42 to 39 victory. Divisional Sports Officer Central from the J&K Sports Council, Mr Javeed ur Rehman (JKAS), attended the presentation ceremony as Chief Guest. He praised the platform for gathering young talent and emphasised that sports play a vital role in the comprehensive growth of students before distributing trophies to honour the performance of the finalists.

Reflecting on the athletic achievement, Principal Ms Shafaq Afshan noted, “Sporting triumphs of this calibre highlight the vital importance of physical education in forming a well-rounded personality. Our students have shown that dedication combined with structured training yields exceptional results both on the field and in the classroom.”
