BARAMULL: A detailed inquiry has been ordered into the alleged conduct of police personnel at Police Station Kunzer following an altercation involving an advocate on June 10, when a party from the police station was executing a status-quo order issued by JMIC Tangmarg in village Dhobiwan, officials said.
According to a police statement, legal and preventive proceedings were initiated in accordance with law during the execution of the order. Subsequently, an altercation is reported to have taken place inside the police station involving an advocate and police personnel, wherein allegations were raised regarding the conduct of police personnel during the incident.
In view of the concerns expressed and to ensure complete transparency, fairness, and objectivity, SSP Baramulla has directed a detailed inquiry into the entire sequence of events, which has been entrusted to a Gazetted Officer.
The inquiry shall examine all aspects of the incident, including the conduct of all persons involved, the circumstances leading to the registration of the case, and any allegations of misconduct or use of force, a police spokesperson said, adding that statements of all concerned persons shall be recorded, and all available evidence shall be examined.
J&K Police reiterated its commitment to the rule of law and respect for all stakeholders, including members of the legal fraternity. It assured that if any lapse, misconduct, or deviation from established procedures on the part of any police personnel is found during the inquiry, appropriate action shall be taken and accountability ensured strictly in accordance with law.
“The investigation into the registered case as well as the departmental inquiry shall proceed independently on merits. The public has been requested not to be guided by speculation or unverified information and to allow the due process of law to take its course,” the statement added.
