ANANTNAG: Anantnag Police has made significant progress in its ongoing campaign against drug trafficking as part of the 100-day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan launched by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. In the first two months, the district registered 172 FIRs under the NDPS Act and arrested 156 drug peddlers involved in narcotics activities.
Authorities seized over 323.5 kg of contraband and recovered ₹26.5 lakh in cash linked to drug operations. In a crackdown on the financial aspects of drug trafficking, properties valued at approximately ₹12.5 crore were attached in 29 cases, and four properties worth about ₹3.76 crore, identified as proceeds of narcotics, were demolished. Additionally, illegal narcotic cultivation spread over nearly 350 marlas was destroyed.
The police also retrieved more than 300 marlas of government land from illegal encroachment by peddlers. Over 1,606 kg of narcotics were destroyed after legal formalities. The campaign led to the arrest of three female peddlers, four female cultivators, and three government employees involved in drug-related activities, with legal action taken against them.
Preventive measures included 119 drug peddlers subjected to legal action, and three major offenders detained under the PIT-NDPS Act. Authorities canceled 17 driving licenses and 9 registration certificates linked to narcotics. A total of 180 Narco-CASOs were conducted to curb the movement of drugs.
Inspections of 51 medical shops resulted in 16 violations, prompting legal proceedings. The police also busted two narcotic hideouts. To enhance investigation quality, 124 officers received specialized training in handling NDPS cases, evidence collection, and prosecution.
