SKUAST-K student secures PhD fellowship at University of Guelph Canada

SRINAGAR: A master’s student from Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir has secured fellowship to pursue PhD in Agriculture at the University of Guelph, Canada.
Bisma Majid, a student of SKUAST-K’s Division of Plant Pathology has received an official offer of admission to the Doctor of Philosophy program in Plant Agriculture. She is set to begin her doctoral studies with full scholarship from September 2026 in the University of Guelph, Canada.
The admission comes with a substantial financial package to fully back her research journey. The University of Guelph has extended her a scholarship with a guaranteed minimum funding for four years (12 semesters) in the form of a Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA). This research stipend is being provided by her doctoral advisor at Guelph, Dr Jay Subramanian. Additionally, Bisma Majid has qualified for the highly competitive International Doctoral Tuition Scholarship (IDTS), bringing further international recognition to her academic profile.
Vice Chancellor Prof Nazir Ahmed Ganai congratulated the scholar and termed the achievement a proud moment for the university, reflecting the academic excellence and research culture being fostered at SKUAST-K. Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Dr Raihana Habib Kanth, alongside Dr Anwar Ali, HOD Plant Pathology, also extended their congratulations and wished her success in future academic pursuits.
Bisma thanked her teachers and advisors: Dr Najeeb Mughal, Dr Sajad Majeed Zargar, and Dr Latief Ahmad for their constant guidance, mentorship, and encouragement.
