Police foil illegal timber smuggling bid in Pulwama

PULWAMA: In a significant action against illegal timber smuggling, J&K Police in Pulwama successfully foiled an attempt to conceal illicit forest timber and recovered a substantial quantity of illegally stored timber during a well-coordinated raid in the Sangerwani area.
Acting on reliable information received by Police Post Sangerwani regarding illegal forest timber concealed by one individual identified as Liaqat Ahmad Doie son of Nizam-ud-Din Doie resident of Sonabanjer in his kotha at Badi Behak. A special raid was immediately launched by Police to curb forest smuggling activities.
Officials from the Forest Department were also associated with the operation. During the search operation, police recovered and seized 06 wooden beams and 07 raw round logs from the said location. The recovered timber was subsequently handed over to Forest Department officials for further necessary action.
In this regard, a case vide FIR No. 76/2026 has been registered under Sections 303(ii) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 26 of the Forest Act, and further investigation has been taken up.
J&K Police said they remain committed to taking strict action against individuals involved in activities that harm natural resources and disturb ecological balance. General public is urged to cooperate with police and report any such unlawful activities.
