SRINAGAR: On the eve of International Labour Day, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, paid a heartfelt tribute to the indomitable spirit and invaluable contributions of workers across both organized and unorganized sectors.
Describing workers as the backbone of the region’s economy and progress, Dr. Farooq lauded their unwavering dedication, resilience, and sacrifices. He reaffirmed the party’s steadfast commitment to safeguarding the rights, dignity, and livelihoods of fixed-income groups, daily wage earners, and artisans, asserting that their welfare remains central to the party’s vision.
Underscoring the historic struggles of labour in Jammu and Kashmir, Dr. Farooq called for renewed recognition of indigenous movements such as those at Zaldagar and the Silk Factory. He noted that while May 1 is celebrated globally, the sacrifices of local workers and artisans must be remembered with equal reverence.
“I pay my homage to the martyrs of the Zaldagar massacre,” he said, urging people to draw inspiration from their courage and sacrifices. He emphasized that these struggles not only symbolized resistance against injustice but also laid the foundation for a broader movement for rights and dignity, led by Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah.
Reiterating the party’s ideological commitment, Dr. Farooq highlighted that the “Naya Kashmir” manifesto remains a cornerstone of progressive labour policy, firmly upholding principles such as the right to work, social justice, and equitable opportunities based on individual capacity.
He assured that the National Conference will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with workers, advocating policies that ensure fair wages, social security, and dignity of labour, while striving to build a more just and inclusive society.
Dr. Farooq extends greetings on the auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima
Srinagar, 30 Apr: The President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, has extended his heartfelt greetings to the people of the country on the auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima.
In his message, Dr. Farooq conveyed his warm wishes to all citizens and emphasized the enduring relevance of the teachings of Gautam Buddha. He stated that the principles of compassion, non-violence, and equality, as propagated by Buddha, continue to serve as a guiding light for humanity in its pursuit of peace, harmony, and spiritual upliftment.
