Police intensify crackdown on illicit poppy cultivation

SRINAGAR: Continuing its sustained campaign against drug menace under the “Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan,”, Police units across Anantnag, Kupwara and Awantipora carried out coordinated operations to destroy illegal poppy cultivation and initiated legal action against those involved.
In Anantnag, police destroyed illicit poppy cultivation in Aishmuqam and Kokernag, registering three FIRs under relevant sections of the NDPS Act. The crops were eradicated on-site in the presence of Executive Magistrates.
Similarly, in Kupwara, acting on credible information, police identified and destroyed illegal poppy plants cultivated within a residential compound. An FIR was registered, and samples were seized for further investigation.
In Awantipora, Police conducted a destruction drive in Woyen with support from Revenue and Agriculture departments. Illegal cultivation was removed, and a case has been registered to identify those responsible.
Jammu & Kashmir Police reaffirmed their commitment to eliminating the drug menace and urged public cooperation in building a drug-free society.
