Massive traffic enforcement drives launched across Kashmir districts

Over 200 challans issued in Kupwara, Anantnag, Baramulla

SRINAGAR: In a decisive effort to improve road safety and ensure strict compliance with traffic regulations, the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) teams across Kupwara, Anantnag, and Baramulla districts executed comprehensive enforcement drives today, resulting in the challaning of over 200 vehicles and the suspension of multiple driving licenses.
Kupwara District saw a vigorous day-long operation led by ARTO Mohammad Shafait, MVI Irfan Aziz, and AMVI Arun Kaw. The team inspected 160 vehicles and issued 52 E-Challans worth Rs 92,600. The enforcement targeted violations such as helmetless riding, seat belt neglect, illegal pressure horns, and overloaded vehicles. Nineteen driving licenses were recommended for suspension, and vehicles were seized on spot. The ARTO emphasized that such drives would become a regular feature to promote disciplined driving and road safety in the district.
Anantnag District conducted a special enforcement campaign in line with directives from the Transport Commissioner, J&K. Over 300 vehicles were inspected, with 106 found violating motor vehicle laws, leading to e-challans totaling Rs 1,50,500. The drive focused on issues like masking High Security Registration Plates (HSRP), illegal pressure horns, and minors operating vehicles. Five vehicles were blacklisted, and four licenses recommended for suspension. ARTO Muazzam Ali called on the public to adhere strictly to traffic regulations for their safety.
Baramulla District carried out a massive enforcement drive at multiple locations, including Sopore, Rafiabad, Ladora, and Baramulla. The team inspected over 350 vehicles, issuing 78 challans amounting to Rs 2,09,400. Violations included helmetless riding, seat belt violations, tampering with HSRP, and other safety lapses. Additionally, 45 licenses were recommended for suspension, 10 vehicles blacklisted, and 8 seized, with four two-wheelers seized for driving without licenses.
The Transport Departments across these districts have reiterated their commitment to road safety, urging motorists to follow traffic rules diligently. They warned that such enforcement drives will continue regularly to deter violations and reduce road accidents.
Motorists are advised to keep their documents updated, install necessary safety devices like HSRP and SLD, and abide by safety protocols to avoid penalties and legal actions.
