HAJIN: Residents of Hajin have launched a campaign against the dumping of garbage, including polythene and other non-biodegradable waste, on roads and in canals. They have expressed concern over the deteriorating sanitation in the area.
The initiative comes amid increasing instances of household waste, plastic wrappers, and polythene bags being dumped along roadsides and into irrigation channels, thereby choking drains and polluting the surroundings.
“People must stop throwing garbage, especially polythene, in the open. It is better to dispose of waste properly by using municipal committee dustbins or other safe methods,” said Shakir Shafi, a local.
Another resident, Majeed Majazi, said the issue has grown due to negligence at the individual level. “We have to understand that keeping our canals and surroundings clean is our collective responsibility. Dumping waste anywhere is harming our own environment,” he said.
Mir Bashir Ahmad, a senior citizen, urged both residents and the business community to act responsibly. “Shopkeepers should ensure that waste generated from their shops, including plastic and packaging material, is disposed of properly and not thrown on roads or into canals,” he said.
