Baramulla: Authorities in Baramulla have imposed restrictions in Mirgund and Mirchimar villages of Singhpora area ahead of the 21st Ramzan, citing concerns over potential law and order issues.
According to an order, a long-standing dispute between two rival Shia factions over the observance of religious functions and control of Imam Bargah and Masjid Mirchimar has prompted the move.
The order states that the Senior Superintendent of Police had recommended restrictions due to previous confrontations and the possibility of activities linked to an unlawful organisation during gatherings.
Restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023 have been imposed in Mirgund, Mirchimar and adjoining areas of Tehsil Singhpora from 8 pm on March 10 to 9:30 pm on March 11.
During this period, the order states that assemblies of four or more persons are prohibited, no processions will be allowed, carrying firearms or objects that can be used as weapons is barred, except for armed forces, police and magistrates on duty and use of loudspeakers requires prior permission from the District Magistrate.
The administration said the measures aim to maintain peace and prevent any law-and-order disturbance in the area—(KNO)
