The Human Search For Peace: Imaan Is The Foundation Of True Rest

Must read

True peace does not come from money or fame; it comes from remembering Allah. This article explores the six pillars of Imaan—belief in Allah, angels, books, messengers, the Last Day, and divine decree—and how they provide strength in weakness, hope in darkness, and a shield against the diseases of envy, arrogance, and love of the world.

Rabiya Jaan

Some search for it in success, some in wealth, some in relationships, some in social approval, and some in achievements. We wake up every day striving for something. We study hard. We work hard. We plan our futures carefully.

Yet even after achieving many goals, many people still feel empty inside.

Why?

Because the human heart was not created to be satisfied by the world alone. It was created to know its Creator. That connection is called Imaan. Hi

Imaan is not just a religious word. It is the foundation of our existence. It is the light inside the heart. Without Imaan, life becomes confusing and heavy. With Imaan, even hardship becomes meaningful.

Allah says: “Indeed, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.” (Surah Ar-Ra’d 13:28)

True peace does not come from money or fame. It comes from remembering Allah.

What Is Imaan?

Imaan means faith. But faith in Islam is not just believing something in the mind. It is deeper than that.

Scholars explain that Imaan consists of:

  • Belief in the heart
  • Declaration by the tongue
  • Actions by the limbs

This means a person cannot claim to have faith while their actions contradict their belief.

True Imaan affects:

  • How we speak
  • How we treat others
  • How we control anger
  • How we deal with hardship
  • How we behave when no one is watching.

The Prophet (PBUH) said in Sahih Muslim: “Faith has over seventy branches, the highest of which is saying ‘La ilaha illallah,’ and the lowest of which is removing something harmful from the road.”

This hadith teaches us something beautiful: even small good deeds are part of faith.

Smiling is Imaan.

Helping someone is Imaan.

Speaking gently is Imaan.

Avoiding harm is Imaan.

Faith is not limited to rituals. It lives in daily behaviour.

The Six Pillars of Imaan

Our Imaan stands upon six pillars. These beliefs shape how we understand life, death, suffering, and success.

  1. Belief in Allah

The first and greatest pillar is believing in Allah — that He is One, without partner.

Allah says: “Say: He is Allah, One. Allah, the Eternal Refuge.” (Surah Al-Ikhlas 112:1–2)

Believing in Allah means:

  • He created everything.
  • He controls everything.
  • He knows everything.
  • Nothing happens without His permission.

He says: “And We are closer to him than his jugular vein.” (Surah Qaf 50:16)

This verse is powerful. Allah knows our silent tears. He knows our hidden fears. He knows our struggles that no one else sees.

When we truly believe in Allah:

  • We do not fear people more than Him.
  • We trust Him during difficulty.
  • We turn to Him before anyone else.

Belief in Allah gives strength in weakness and hope in darkness.

  1. Belief in the Angels

We believe that angels exist. They are created from light and obey Allah completely.

Allah says: “And indeed, over you are keepers, noble and recording; they know whatever you do.” (Surah Al-Infitar 82:10–12)

This means every word is recorded. Every action is written.

Even when we are alone, we are not truly alone.

This belief makes us careful. It builds discipline. It increases awareness.

  1. Belief in the Divine Books

Allah sent guidance through holy books. The final and preserved book is the Qur’an.

Allah says: “This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for the righteous.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:2)

The Qur’an is not just for recitation in Ramadan. It is a manual for life.

It teaches justice.

It teaches mercy.

It teaches patience.

It teaches forgiveness.

If we truly believe it is from Allah, we must try to live according to it.

  1. Belief in the Messengers

Allah sent many prophets to guide humanity.

Allah says: “And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, saying, ‘Worship Allah and avoid false gods.’” (Surah An-Nahl 16:36)

Every prophet carried the same message — worship Allah alone.

Their lives are examples of strong Imaan:

  • Prophet Nuh (AS) showed patience.
  • Prophet Ibrahim (AS) showed sacrifice.
  • Prophet Musa (AS) showed courage.
  • Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)showed mercy and forgiveness.

Their stories strengthen our faith.

  1. Belief in the Day of Judgment

One day, every soul will stand before Allah.

Allah says: “So whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it.”

(Surah Az-Zalzalah 99:7–8)

Nothing is small in Allah’s sight.

Believing in the Day of Judgment changes how we live:

  • We avoid injustice.
  • We control anger.
  • We forgive others.
  • We do good even when no one notices.

Because Allah notices.

  1. Belief in Divine Decree (Qadr)

Everything happens by Allah’s knowledge and wisdom.

Allah says: “Indeed, all things We created with decree.” (Surah Al-Qamar 54:49)

Believing in Qadr gives peace.

When something painful happens, we trust that Allah knows what we do not know.

We try our best, but we leave results to Him.

Imaan Increases and Decreases

Faith is not constant. It grows with obedience and weakens with sin.

Allah says: “That they may increase in faith along with their faith.” (Surah Al-Fath 48:4)

When we pray sincerely, Imaan increases.

When we read the Qur’an, it increases.

When we sin without repentance, it decreases.

We must protect our Imaan like our most valuable treasure.

The Levels of Imaan

Imaan has levels of certainty.

Ilm-ul-Yaqeen – Knowledge of Certainty

Believing because Allah informed us.

Ayn-ul-Yaqeen – Seeing with Certainty

Belief becomes stronger through reflection and experience.

Haq-ul-Yaqeen – Absolute Certainty

Complete conviction without doubt.

Our goal is to move toward stronger certainty.

Diseases That Destroy Imaan

Just as the body gets sick, the heart gets sick.

Allah says: “In their hearts is a disease.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:10)

Some diseases include:

Envy (Hasad)

Feeling upset at others’ blessings.

Arrogance (Kibr)

Thinking we are better than others.

Love of the World

Becoming too attached to dunya.

Allah warns: “The life of this world is nothing but enjoyment of delusion.” (Surah Aal-E-Imran 3:185)

These diseases weaken faith.

  • Hypocrisy vs True Imaan

Hypocrisy is pretending to believe while hiding disbelief.

Allah says: “They say with their tongues what is not in their hearts.” (Surah Al-Fath 48:11)

True Imaan means sincerity — in public and in private.

  • Youth and Imaan

Youth is powerful but full of temptations.

Allah says about the youths of the cave: “Indeed, they were youths who believed in their Lord, and We increased them in guidance.” (Surah Al-Kahf 18:13)

Strong Imaan in youth protects from destruction.

Women and Imaan

Islam honours women of strong faith.

Allah mentions Maryam (AS): “And Mary, the daughter of Imran, who guarded her chastity…” (Surah At-Tahrim 66:12)

Imaan gives women dignity, strength, and honour.

Imaan in Modern Society

Today’s world is full of distractions.

Allah warns: “Do not let your wealth and children divert you from the remembrance of Allah.” (Surah Al-Munafiqun 63:9)

Strong Imaan keeps priorities clear.

Imaan and Jannah

Allah promises: “Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds will have gardens beneath which rivers flow.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:25)

Jannah has no pain. No sadness. No death.

The greatest reward is seeing Allah.

Imaan and Jahannam

Allah warns: “Indeed, those who disbelieve in Our verses — We will drive them into a Fire.” (Surah An-Nisa 4:56)

Belief in Hell protects us from sin.

Final Reflection

Dear reader,

Everything in this world will end.

“Every soul will taste death.” (Surah Aal-E-Imran 3:185)

One day, wealth and status will not matter.

“The Day when neither wealth nor children will benefit, except one who comes to Allah with a sound heart.” (Surah Ash-Shu’ara 26:88–89)

A sound heart is a heart filled with Imaan.

Protect your faith.

Strengthen it daily.

Return to Allah often.

Because the greatest success is not worldly achievement.

The greatest success is meeting Allah with strong Imaan.
