SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) on Thursday said it has taken up the matter of the alleged assault on Kashmiri nursing students at Mewar University in Chittorgarh district with Rajasthan Chief Secretary V. Srinivas, seeking urgent intervention to ensure the safety, security, and academic protection of the affected students.
National Convener of the Association, Nasir Khuehami, in a statement issued here, said that the Association apprised the Chief Secretary of the alleged assault on students following their peaceful protest seeking clarity on the recognition status of the B.Sc. Nursing course. The Association conveyed that 33 Kashmiri students continue to remain under suspension for raising concerns about the alleged absence of mandatory approvals from the Indian Nursing Council (INC) and the Rajasthan Nursing Council (RNC).
Khuehami informed the Chief Secretary that more than 50 Kashmiri students are enrolled in the programme, which is scheduled to conclude within the next four months, and that uncertainty over statutory approvals has left students deeply anxious about the validity of their degrees, professional registration, and employment prospects.
The Association further stated that during the protest, tensions reportedly escalated when a group of students from Bihar, allegedly supported by local Bajrang Dal activists, confronted and assaulted the protesting students. Four Kashmiri students were reportedly injured, and a female student was allegedly manhandled.
Khuehami said that the Chief Secretary responded promptly, stating that he would look into the matter and ensure that appropriate steps are taken. The Association urged the Rajasthan administration to ensure immediate protection for the students, revoke the suspension orders, conduct a fair inquiry into the alleged assault and intimidation, and facilitate a time-bound resolution of the approval issue. The Association expressed hope that the Rajasthan Chief Secretary will act swiftly to restore confidence, ensure a fair inquiry into the allegations of assault and intimidation, and facilitate a resolution that safeguards the academic future of the students.
Association reiterated that the students’ demands are limited to securing the required statutory approvals without delay or, alternatively, facilitating their transfer to a duly recognised institution so that their academic year and professional future are not jeopardised due to administrative lapses.
