Sumbal: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday arrested a “notorious” drug peddler in the Sumbal area of Bandipora district and recovered a significant quantity of contraband substance (charas) from his possession.
A police official said that during a checkpoint established near the CRPF training camp in Sumbal, a police party intercepted and arrested a drug peddler identified as Sameer Ahmad alias Shatroo, son of Abdul Hamid Dar, a resident of Wangipora, Sumbal.
He said that 11.50 kilograms of charas was recovered from his possession. The accused has been shifted to Police Station Sumbal, where he remains in custody.
“In this regard, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Sumbal and further investigation has been taken up,” the official added.
It is pertinent to mention that the said hardcore drug peddler has several FIRs registered against him in the past.
