Jammu Police’s use of new SOPs thwart cyber fraud
JAMMU: Police Station CICE Jammu responded promptly to an online complaint received on 06.02.2026 from a retired Air Force officer regarding a “Digital Arrest” cyber fraud involving Rs 52,90,000. The victim was under digital arrest for nine days before intervention.
Acting swiftly, the police launched an investigation, traced beneficiary bank accounts, and followed the money trail without delay. Within just three hours of receiving the complaint, an amount of Rs 11,90,000 was traced to a Yes Bank account in Jodhpur and was immediately placed on hold by invoking the newly issued Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). Additionally, a lien of Rs 4,90,000 was marked across subsequent linked bank accounts.
Further coordinated efforts with the concerned banks led to the identification of an additional Rs 28,00,000 in a second layer of suspected accounts. As a result, a total of Rs 39,90,482 of the defrauded amount has been successfully recovered and secured. The recovered funds will soon be remitted back to the complainant’s account through the Hon’ble Court, providing significant relief to the victim and his family.
This case marks the first operational use of the newly introduced SOP by PS CICE Jammu in a live investigation, demonstrating its effectiveness in financial crime resolution. The prompt action was led by DySP Albeena Malik-JKPS, SHO PS CICE Jammu, along with Inspector Pradeep Singh and HC Rakesh Choudhary, under the overall supervision of SSP CICE J&K.
