Student Speaks: Today’s education system is failing students

Must read

Real education means courage, honesty, teamwork, not just high marks and forgotten syllabus

Zainab Batool

Real education is very important for every child. It helps a person grow mentally, morally, and socially. Education teaches us how to think critically and how to lead a fulfilling life. Without real education, a person cannot become responsible and wise.
In earlier times, education was highly regarded. Teachers were considered guides, and students listened to them carefully. Education focused on good character, discipline, honesty, and respect for elders. Today, the meaning of education has changed. Many students think that education only means getting high marks in exams. They believe that marks decide their future and nothing else matters.
Students study hard before exams but forget everything after exams. They memorise answers without understanding their meaning. This type of learning does not help them in real life. Many students depend too much on the internet. They search for answers online instead of using their own thinking power. This habit reduces creativity and independent thinking.
Online education has become common in recent years. Although it is useful, it has reduced face-to-face interaction between teachers and students. This makes learning less personal and less effective. Education has become fast and mechanical. Schools rush to complete the syllabus on time. Teachers do not get enough time to explain topics properly.
Because of this system, moral values are ignored.
Students learn many subjects, but do not learn kindness, honesty, patience, and respect. Education without values is incomplete.
Students know how to use mobile phones, computers, and modern technology. However, many students do not know how to face failure or control their emotions.
The present education system encourages competition. Students are compared with one another based on marks and ranks. This creates fear, jealousy, and pressure among students.
Many students feel stressed because of exams. They feel afraid of failure and disappointing their parents. This stress affects their mental health.
Teachers also face many problems. They have heavy workloads and strict deadlines. Because of pressure, they cannot give personal attention to every student. Teaching has become exam-oriented. Teachers focus on important questions instead of real understanding. This affects the quality of education.
Parents also play an important role in education. Many parents care only about marks and results. They compare their children with others, which hurts children emotionally.
Education should make students confident and happy. But today, education has become a burden. Students feel tired and frustrated because of constant pressure.
In earlier times, students were encouraged to ask questions. Teachers welcomed curiosity and discussion. Learning was interesting and enjoyable. Today, this habit is slowly disappearing. Students are afraid to ask questions. They only want to finish the syllabus and pass exams.
Overuse of technology and social media has reduced concentration. Students spend more time on screens than on books. This affects deep thinking.
Real education does not mean getting high marks only. It means learning life skills, problem-solving skills, and good behaviour.
Schools should encourage sports, debates, art, and group activities. These activities help students develop confidence and teamwork. Education should teach students to respect others and help society. A truly educated person is kind, honest, and responsible.
Real education prepares students for real-life challenges. It teaches them how to face problems with courage and patience.
Education should help students discover their talents and interests. Every child is different and should be given equal respect. When students enjoy learning, they perform better. Education should be joyful, not stressful.
Real education is the backbone of a strong society. If students focus on learning, teachers teach with care, and parents support their children, real education can regain its true meaning and value.
